Miller Family Ministries Website

Over the course of three weeks and over 120 hours I was able to create an e-commerce wordpress site for the Miller Family Ministries. It was a wonderful experience, and I am so thankful for the opportunity they gave me to create their new website for them. I learned so much from this particular project that has benefited me as a developer, and getting that real world experience has made me feel much stronger in wordpress development than I ever did in college. I am really happy with the way the website has turned out and very happy with how organized the whole experience was. I felt very confident coming in knowing exactly what needed to be done and how the website needed to look. It inspired me to be more prepared before jumping into a project with hardly any details.

Challenges That I Faced!!

The big challenge that I faced while creating this website was experience. During my years at college I took a course on wordpress and even created some websites for projects I had in that class; however, doing a project in class and creating a website for a client are two different things. I spent many hours researching and catching up to speed with wordpress and all the tools we were using to create and maintain the new website.

What I Enjoyed Most

The main thing I enjoyed the most was the work. As most of you know computer programming isn't just a career for me, but it is also my hobby. I was thriled each day I came into work and would spend many hours after I went home working on this project. A few nights when I couldn't sleep I would pull out my laptop and crank away for an hour.

Another thing I enjoyed was the challenge. I love being able to challenge myself as a developer and expand my horizon. I don't just give up because I either didn't know the solution to the problem or was too lazy to figue it out. I wanted to learn all I could about wordpress and WooCommerce so that I can not only make the client happy but also gain knowlege and experience in that area.

Conclusion

I have learned so much during the making of this webpage. A lot of what I learned in class I implemented it in this project. I was challenged by a lot of my professors back in college to continue to create websites, apps, or blogs during my free time. I have done all of those things, and I can tell you from experience that it really helps keeping my mind sharp on what I have learned to help me become a better programer. The more we push ourselves as developers to learn and use what we have learned; the better we will become.

Learning to code is like riding a bike. It comes easy to some but a lot difficult to others. You can’t just give up after the first try. The more you practice, the better you will become.
